Due to the teamwork and resilience shown by all ESA staff, the goal was achieved: opening the plant in less than a year.

Last February 23 was a memorial day for Empaques Santa Ana. (ESA)—the anniversary of the catastrophic fire which consumed the entire corrugated plant on February 23, 2022. Yet, an exact year later, the company had the reopening ceremony of its corrugation plant.
In a record time of one year, it was possible to clean the site, rebuild the whole infrastructure, buy the corrugator and printers—which was a highly complex task since the supply of these machines for immediate delivery is rare—import them to Costa Rica, and install them on-site to begin production.
During the past months, the company had its satellite operations in sister companies of Grupo Comeca to continue its production work and do everything possible to fulfill its clients’ orders. In addition, the operations in Ecuador, Guatemala, and Nicaragua supported them in meeting the needs of current customers. Therefore, deep gratitude to all of them.
During the ceremony, all the company employees were present, including the Mesalles family, some suppliers, and strategic allies, who were of great help during the reconstruction process.
Among those who shared inspiring words on this day were:
Víctor A. Mesalles, president of Grupo Comeca.
Mr. Víctor Mesalles, founder of Grupo Comeca.
Rafael Simón, director of the Cardboard and Paper Division of Grupo Comeca.
Roberto Araya, General Manager of ESA.
Also, a priest was present to bless the plant.
No collaborator was fired during the last year—everyone worked towards a common goal: to get the company back up and on track. The ESA team and its leaders achieved the proposed goal thanks to their unconditional teamwork and resilience.
